Habitat: Strongly-rolling wooded terain; moderate south-facing slope. Mesic oak forest dominated by mature Quercus rubra with some Tilia americana, Ulmus rubra & Acer saccharum in canopy. Ostrya viriniana common in patchy understory. Dark, rich sandy-loam. Associates include Anemone quinquefolia, Polygonatum pubescens, Circaea lutetiana, Amphicarpaea bracteata, Aster macrophyllus, Viola pubescens, Thalictrum dioicum, Uvularia grandiflora, Carex pensylvanica.
