Habitat:
Gently-rolling terrain ... cattle pasture in area where the original mesic hardwood forest was cleared ~ 20-30 years ago. Full sun. Compacted silty-loam soil. Other hawthorn species here include Crataegus macracantha, C. punctata, C. chrysocarpa. Additional associates include Phleum pratense, Poa pratensis, Trifolium arvense, Carduus acanthoides.
