Habitat: Gently-rolling terrain along the upper reaches of [creek] ... Mesic hardwood forest on gentle lower portion of broad drumlin slope. Canopy dominated by Quercus macrocarpa, Populus tremuloides, Tilia americana, and Populus balsamifera. Tall dense shrub layer of Corylus cornuta and C. americana. Rocky sandy-loam. Associates include Brachyelytrum erectum, Carex convoluta, C. pensylvanica, Festuca subverticillata, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Geranium maculatum, Amphicarpaea bracteata, Thalictrum dioicum, Rubus strigosus, Viburnum rafinesquianum, Crataegus macracantha, Parthenocissus inserta.
