Habitat: small (~2-acre) spring fen surrounded by tamarack-black spruce swamp. Full sun to partial shade of stunted Larix laricina and Picea mariana. Deep, quaky, saturated peat fed by subtle flow of upwelling groundwater. Carpets of Bryales mosses. Forming sparse to dense clumps. Associates include Carex interior, C. gynocrates, C. aquatilis, Trichophorum hudsonianum, Eriophorum virdi-carinatum, E. angustifolium, E. chamissonis, Caltha palustris, Spiranthes romanzoffiana, Utricularia intermedia, Galium labradoricum, Sparganium minimum, Betula glandulifera, Salix candida, S. pedicellaris.
