Habitat: Mesic hardwood forest dominated by Tilia americana and Quercus macrocarpa. Understory of Acer saccharum and Ostrya virginiana. Sandy loam on gradual slopes in rolling terrain. Forming loose patches. Associated species include Festuca subverticillata, Oryzopsis asperifolia, O. racemosa, Carex pedunculata, C. pensylvanica, C. deweyana, C. sprengilii, Arenaria lateriflora, Asarum canadense, Uvularia grandiflora, U. sessilifolia, Anemone quenquefolia, Aster macrophyllus, Osmorhiza claytonii.
