Habitat: In tamarack swamp dominated by rather dense stand of mature Larix laricina. Patchy understory of Alnus incana. In carpets of Sphagnum and other mosses on raised substate areas (hummocks) such as around the bases of trees ... Preferring less densely-canopied areas. Associated species include Carex leptalea, C. disperma, C. magellanica, Rubus pubescens, Rhamnus alnifolia, Lonicera villosa, Ledum groenlandicum, Linnaea borealis, Saxifraga pensylvanica, Trientalis borealis, Cypripedium raginae, Smilacina trifolia, Cardamine bulbosa, Caltha palustris.
