Habitat: Rugged terrain ... On dry, 60-foot, west-facing, diabase cliffs that form the upper part of extremely steep 200-foot slope ... in crevices and on ledges on lower half of cliff. Cliff feature is partially forested with small trees including Thuja occidentalis & Betula papyrifera. In partial sunlight to full shade. Associates include Agrostis scabra, Oryzopsis pungens, Carex eburnea, C. pedunculata, C. communis, Woodisa ilvensis, Polypodium virginianum, Saxifraga virginiensis, Aquilegia canadensis, Antennaria plantaginifolia, Galium triflorum, Rubus strigosus, Prunus virginiana, Diervilla lonicera, Amelanchier sp.
