Habitat: In a low moist aspen-birch forest with white spruce in the understory. In mineral soil, and moderate shade. Associated with Aster macrophyllus, Pteridium aquilinum var. latiusculum, Lycopodium clavatum, Equisestum sylvaticum, Athyrium angustum.
