Habitat: in bog dominated by Picea mariana. Continuous carpet of Sphagnum mosses, both on hummocks and in wetter depressions. Associates include Carex trisperma, C. oligosperma, Larix laricina, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Ledum groenlandicum, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Kalmia polifolia, Smilacina trifoliata, Sarracenia purpurea.
