Habitat: In a mesic oak-aspen woodland ... Associated with Corylus cornuta, Carpinus caroliniana, Prunus virginiana, Crataegus chrysocarpa, C. macrosperma.
Description: A large shrub with a single stem 2.5 m tall, and 5 cm basal dia. Stamens ca 10, anthers pink. Compound thorns absent, simple thorns numerous and relatively long.
