Habitat: Rugged forested moraine ... in mesic hardwood forest dominated locally by Populus grandidentata, with Tilia americana and Quercus rubra scattered nearby. Ostrya virginiana common in understory ... on lower portion of fairly steep, 40-foot, north-facing slope. Gravelly-sand substrate. Associated species include Oryzopsis racemosa, O. asperifolia, Carex pensylvanica, Thalictrum dioicum, Uvularia grandiflora, Aster macrophyllus, Solidago flexicaulis, Symphoricarpos albus, Zanthoxylum americanum.
