Habitat: white cedar swamp...In area dominated by short Alnus incana with open canopy of Thuja occidentalis & Larix laricina. Full sun to partial shade. Wet, mucky substrate. Asscociates include Cornus stolonifera, Salix bebbiana, S. pyrifolia, Rhamnus alnifolia, Lonicera caerulea, Rubus pubescens, Eupatorium maculatum, Thalictrum dasycarpum, Petasites sagittatus, Equisetum sylvaticum, Caltha palustris, Smilacina trifoliata, Habenaria hyperborea, Glyceria striata.
