Habitat:
On the southern shore ... ecotonal area between dry woodland and lake shore marsh. Shaded by Betula papyrifera, Acer rubrum, and Pinus banksiana. In patchy understory with Acer rubrum, Quercus ellipsoidalis, and Corylus cornuta. Rather dense low-shrub layer dominated by Vaccinium angustifolium. Shallow, moist organic substrate, over sand. Additional associates include Osmunda claytoniana, Trientalis borealis, Carex lacustris, Amelanchier sp., and Quercus rubra seedlings.
