Habitat: Strongly-rolling forested moraine ... in narrow strip of forest in at base [sic] of northwest-facing slope ... Forest in this level to gently-sloping area varies from ash swamp to mesic hardwood forest. Canopy patchy due to beaver felling; dominant trees vary from Fraxinus nigra near lake to Tilia americana farther inland. Understory variously of Ulmus americana, Cornus alternifolia, Ostrya virginiana, and Viburnum lentago ... dark loamy organic soil. Associated species include Carex pedunculata, Aralia nudicaulis, Osmorhiza claytonii, Thalictrum dioicum, Caulophyllum thalictroides, Uvularia sessilifolia, U. grandiflora, Laportea canadensis, Anemone quinquefolia, Arisaema triphyllum, Equissetum sylvaticum, Onoclea sensibilis, Athyrium angustum.
