Habitat: In small prairie remnant in unplowed area of pioneer cemetery (circa 1849). Gradual west-facing slope overlooking broad outwash plain along [river]. Full sun. Dark sandy soil. Forming clumps. Associates include Dicanthelium perlongum, Poa pratensis, Koeleria macrantha, Schizachrium scoparium, Stipa spartea, Sorghastrum nutans, Artemisia ludoviciana, Penstemon gracilis, Geum triflorum, Commandra umbellata, Heuchera richardsonii, Potentilla arguta, Polygonatum biflorum, Physalis virginaiana, Prunus pumila.
