Habitat: Rugged terrain...fairly steep, 50-foot, west-facing slope. Interrupted canopy dominated by Betula papyrifera. Subcanopy of Picea glauca & Abies balsamea. Open shrub layer of Corylus cornuta. Loamy soil. Associates include Pteridium aquilinum, Diervilla lonicera, Clintonia borealis, Anemone quinquefolia, Aster macrophyllus, Carex pedunculata.
