Habitat: Alluvial forest on terrace 9-12 feet above river level (flooding is rare and of short duration here). In canopy with Celtis occidentalis, Tilia americana, Acer negundo, Quercus macrocarpa, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, Ulmus americana, and dying Juglans cinerea. Silty soil. Additional associates include Vitis riparia, Humulus lupulus, Lonicera x bella, Rhamnus cathartica, Rudbeckia laciniata, Glechoma hederacea, Eupatorium rugosum, Pilea fontant, Asarum canadense.
