In mature pine/oak woodland dominated by Pinus banksiana and Quercus ellipsoidalis. Dry sandy soil, in area of high water table. Associated with Corylus americana, C. cornuta, Alnus viridis ssp. crispa, Amelanchier arborea, Prunus pensylvanica.
