Habitat: in patches of mesic hardwood forest on terraces ~six feet higher than the elevation of the adjacent floodplain. Canopy of Tilia americana, Quercus macrocarpa, and Betula papyrifera. Silty sand substrate. Associated species include Carex sprengelii, Festuca subverticillata, Laportea canadensis, Equisetum arvense, Sanguinaria canadensis, Aquilegia canadensis, Arisaema triphyllum, Uvularia sessilifolia, Zanthoxylum amearicanum.
