Habitat: along narrow township road through rather strongly-rolling forested terrain ... Full sun to partial shade of adjacent forest trees including Populus tremuloides, P. grandidentata, Betula papyrifera, and Tilia americana. Dry, sandy soil. Associated species include Corylus cornuta, C. americana, Viburnum rafinesquianum, Athyrium angustum, Solidago canadensis.
Description: Local, forming tall, dense thickets. Florocanes high-arching, to 8 feet tall and 10+ feet long, loaded with black sweet fruits. Primocanes high-arching, to 9 feet tall and 10+ feet long. Largest stems with nearly 1 inch basal diameter.
