Habitat: In alluvial forest ... on slight rises in a broad swale; this area 1-2 feet lower in elevation than the forest that covers most of the floodplain in this river bend. Beneath canopy of fairly large Acer saccharinum, with scattered Fraxinus nigra. Open understory. Moist organic silt (abnormally dry due to extended drought). Associates include Carex lupulina, C. normalis, Glyceria striata, Polygonum hydropiper, Galium obtusum, Scutellaria lateriflora, Pilea fontana, Lycopus uniflorus, Bidens sp., and seedlings sof Acer saccharinum and Fraxinus pennsylvanica.
