Habitat: In gently rolling terrain...in moist soil in narrow band of disturbed, wet-mesic forest between tamarack swamp and cultivated field. Sparse canopy of Ulmus americana, Populus tremuloides, P. balsamifera, and Fraxinus nigra. Dense understory of Corylus cornuta and scattered Alnus inana. Moist, shallow organic soil over sand. Associated species include Equisetum arvense, Rubus pubescens, Maianthemum canadense, Streptopus roseus, Actaea rubra, Thalictrum dioicum, Mitella nuda, Geranium maculatum, Osmorhiza claytonii, Carex pedunculata.
