Habitat: on extremely steep lower third of 130ft, north-facing slope. Canopy dominated by Tilia americana with occasional Betula papyrifera. Moist sandy loam with dense moss cover. Associates include Carex eburnea, C. peckii, Maianthemum canadense, Ostrya virginiana.
