Habitat: in slight depressions of mature maple basswood forest with inclusions of mesic oak. Level to gently sloping ground at edge of forest near sedge meadow. Organic silt loam mesic to wet-mesic with thick humus. Sanguinaria canadensis, Trillium grandiflorum, Solidago flexicaulis, Rhus radicans.
