Habitat: tamarack swamp dominated by rather dense stand of Larix laricina. On hummocks of Sphagnum and other mosses around tree bases and edges of shallow pools. Full to partial shade. Associated species include Lonicera caerulea, Ribes hirtellum, R. triste, Vaccinium oxycoccus, Alnus incana, Betula glandulifera, Thelypteris palustris, Caltha palustris, Rubus pubescens.
