Habitat: Fairly rugged forested moraine ... previously inundated (flooded by beavers within past three years) areas of hardwood swamp and adjacent mesic hardwood forest ecotone ... Mesic to wet soil. Mostly in full sun. Climbing on vegetation and old snags to 10+ feet high. Associates include Urtica dioica, Cirsium arvense, Potentilla norvegica, Erechtites hieracifolia, Verbena hastata, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Scutellaria lateriflora, Stachys palustris, Conyza canadensis, Epilobium ciliatum, Carex stipata, Scirpus cyperinus, Poa palustris, Glyceria grandis, Phalaris arundinacea.
