Habitat: forested moraine...in mixed mesic forest on lower portion of moderately steep, 70-foot, north-facing slope...Canopy patchy locally, composed of Acer rubrum and Populus tremuloides, with Pinus resinosa and P. banksiana just up slope. Understory of Abies balsamea. Loamy sand with thick duff layer. Associated species include Pteridium aquilinum, Trientalis borealis, Aster macrophyllus, Maianthemum canadense, Hepatica americana, Streptopus roseus, Carex pedunculata.
