Habitat: At the edge of ephemeral pool in loamy sand. Partial shade. Canopy and understory dom. by Fraxinus nigra, Ulmus americana, and Ostrya virginiana. Larger surrounding forest in dom. by Tilia americana, Betula papyrifera and Pinus strobus. Associates include: Iris versicolor, Carex lacustris, Athyrium filix-femina, Carex cf. cristatella, Rubus pubescens, Circaea lutetiana, Parthenocissus inserta.
