Habitat: brushy opening on crest of narrow meander island 50' relief bordered by steep sides...Opening maintained by beaver cuttings of small trees & brush. Seedling layer nearly absent, grasses thinly scattered beneath forbs. Very hard clay layer about 18-22 cm deep. (=P. villosissimum Nash) Rosa acicularis, Fraxinus pensylvanica, Amelanchier sanguinea, Acer rubrum seedlings, Quercus macrocarpa, Amorpha canascens.
