Habitat: Level to gently-rolling terrain ... old pasture opening (~5 acres) in dry jack pine woodland ... full sun in an area that was also used as a log landing for recent timber harvest. Dry sandy soil (often open sand). Associated species include Physalis heterophylla, Polygonum convolvulus, Rumex acetosella, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Geranium bicknellii, Potentilla argentea, Verbascum thapsus, Conyza canadensis, Cyperus houghtonii, Carex siccata, Dichanthelium acuminatum, Poa pratensis, Agrostis scabra, Agropyron repens, Andropogon gerardii.
