Rolling terrain. Fairly broad ecotonal band between tamarack swamp and mesic hardwood forest on adjacent upland. Patchy to interrupted canopy of Fraxinus nigra, Larix laricina, and Ulmus americana. Rather dense, tall understory of Alnus incana. Moist to wet organic substrate. Partial to full shade. Associates include: Carex lacustris, C. stipata, Phalaris arundinacea, Impatiens capensis, Lycopus uniflorus, Galium asprellum, Rubus pubescens, Caltha palustris, Onoclea sensibilis, Parthenocissus inserta, Ribes hirtellum.
