Habitat:
Strongly-rolling forested moraine. Steep, 60-foot, north-facing slope. Mesic hardwood forest dominated locally by Acer rubrum, Betula papyrifera, and Pinus strobus. Understory of Acer saccharum, A. rubrum, Tilia americana, and Ostrya virginiana. Sandy-loam over sand; thick duff layer. Associates include: Pteridium aquilinum, Streptopus roseus, Aster macrophyllus, Maianthemum canadense, Thalictrum dioicum, Rubus pubescens, Uvularia sessifolia, Smilacina racemosa, Hepatica americana, Pyrola secunda, Clintonia borealis, Carex pensylvanica, Corylus cornuta, Viburnum rafinesquianum.
Description:
Local. Loose to rather dense patches. Few plants with strobili.
