Rolling drumlin plain; in inter-drumlin wetland complex. Rich conifer swamp dominated by canopy of mature Larix laricina, with scattered Picea mariana, and P. glauca. Patchy understory of Picea mariana, P. glauca, Abies balsamea, Betula papyrifera, and Ulmus americana. On hummocks, mostly around tree bases. Deep peat. Growing in sunny setting on edge of swamp. Additional associates include Rubus pubescens, Trientalis borealis, Mitella nuda, Cornus canadensis, Linnaea borealis, Parthenocissus inserta, Toxicodendron rydbergii.
Multi-stemmed, semi-erect shrubs to 30 inches tall, sprawling to 12 feet in diameter. Specimen from large plant; no reproductive structures observed on plants growing in the shaded interior of the swamp.
