Habitat: Rolling forested moraine. Narrow strip of heavily grazed open woods between tamarack swamp and old field. In full sun most of the day; partial shade of large Quercus macrocarpa and Ulmus americana in the morning. Very patchy canopy. Dark sandy-loam. Associated include: Poa pratensis, Phleum pratense, Taraxacum officinale, and other pasture weeds.
Description: Local. One 12-foot tall, multi-stemmed tree. Anthers purple/pink in bud; most buds open. Leaves flutter in gentle breeze.
