Habitat: Strongly rolling moraine. Upper portion of extremely steep, south-facing slope of 120-foot knoll in heavily-grazed cattle pasture. Degraded dry prairie/savanna opening. Full sun to partial shade of open-grown Quercus macrocarpa. Dry sandy-loam. Associates include: Dichanthelium perlongum, Poa compressa, P. pratensis, Sorghastrum nutans, Lespedeza capitata, Achillea millefolium, Potentilla argentea, P. simplex.
Description: Locally common. Low, spreading shrubs.
