Habitat:
Strongly rolling forested moraine. In mesic hardwood forest along base and lower portion of rather steep, 70-foot, north-facing slope above lake. Canopy dominated by Tilia americana, Betula papyrifera, Acer rubrum, and A. saccharum. Rather dense understory of Acer saccharum, A. rubrum, and Ostrya virginiana. Compacted sandy-loam. Associates include: Lycopodium hickeyi, Athyrium angustum, Maianthemum canadense, Smilacina racemosa, Solidago flexicaulis, Actaea rubra, Uvularia sessifolia, Osmorhiza claytonii, Streptopus roseus, Carex pedunculata, and seedlings of Acer saccharum and Tilia americana.

Uncommon and local. Fairly dense small patches.
