Habitat: Growing in transition from an Alnus incana and Picea mariana swamp to an upland dominated by Populus tremuloides and Abies balsamea. Growing with Rubus pubescens, Maianthemum canadense, Equisetum sylvaticum, Mitella nuda, Fragaria virginiana, Viburnum lentago, Aralia nudicaulis, Ribes hirtellum, Lonicera oblongifolia, Carex deweyana, Cornus canadensis, and Clintonia borealis. Growing in partial shade with loamy, wet soil.
