Growing in muck at base of a tip-up tree. Habitat is a transition from FDn43 (Northern Mesic Mixed Forest) to a FPn62 (Northern Rich Spruce Swamp). associated with Viola macloskeyi, Alnus incana, and Equisetum sylvaticum.
