Habitat: In the understory of mixed forest of aspen-birch-fir. In mesic soil, and partial shade. Associated with Populus tremuloides, betula papyrifera, Prunus virginiana, P. pennsylvanica, Amelanchier laevis.
Description: A large shrub with ca 20 stems, the largest 7.5 m tall, and 9 cm dbh. Bark mottled gray, rough near base. Ovaries hairy. Leaves bronze-tinged. Same stem as #27946.
