Habitat: In strongly rolling forested moraine. Occasional to common. Cobbly sand beach ~12-24 inches above the water along wave-washed shoreline. Full sun. Basal leaves much shorter than cauline leaves. Associates include Agrostis scabra, Cyperus strigosus, C. squarrosus, C. bipartitus, Eleocharis acicularis, E. palustris, Juncus pelocarpus, Ranunculus flammula, Agalinus paupercula, Lobelia kalmii, Bidens cernua, B. tripartita, Erechtites hieraciifolius, Conyza canadensis.
