Habitat: In strongly rolling forested moraine. Occasional to common. Mostly in sandy zones of sand and cobble beach ~6-18 inches above the water along wave-washed shoreline. Full sun. Associated species include Cyperus strigosus, C. squarrosus, C. bipartitus, Eleocharis acicularis, E. palustris, Dichanthelium acuminatum, Agrostis scabra, Juncus pelocarpus, Agalinus paupercula, Conyza canadensis, Ranunculus flammula, Lobelia kalmii, Bidens cernua, B. tripartita, Erechtites hieraciifolius.
