Habitat: In strongly rolling forested moraine. Uncommon to locally abundant. On sand beach ~12-18 inches above the water along wave-washed shoreline. Full sun. Associated species include Cyperus strigosus, C. squarrosus, Carex viridula, Eleocharis acicularis, E. palustris, Lipocarpha micrantha, Juncus pelocarpus, Agrostis scabra, Dichanthelium acuminatum, Ranunculus flammula, Erechtites hieraciifolius, Agalinus paupercula, Conyza canadensis, Bidens tripartita, B. cernua, Lobelia kalmii.
