In strongly rolling forested moraine. Occasional. On sand and cobble beach along wave-washed shoreline. Full sun. Associates include Cyperus squarrosus, C. bipartitus, Eleocharis acicularis, E. palustris, Carex viridula, Dichanthelium acuminatum, Agrostis scabra, Juncus pelocarpus, Lobelia kalmii, Erechtites hieraciifolius, Bidens cernua, B. tripartita, Conyza canadensis.
