Habitat: In rolling forested terrain. Occasional in open sand of rather broad, gently-sloping beach. Loose clumps and small dense patches occurring up to two feet above the present water level (which is down ~3 feet due to extended drought); also in shallow water. Submersed plants without inflorescences. Full sun. Associated species include Cyperus bipartitus, Eleocharis quinqueflora, Carex viridula, Agrostis scabra, Juncus brevicaudatus, Lobelia siphilitica, L. kalmii, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Agalinus paupercula, F
