Habitat: Local on floodplain in fairly large river bend. Occasional to frequent along backwater slough and moist flood channel settings 2-3 feet below elevation of adjacent alluvial forest. Canopy of Acer saccharinum, with frequent Fraxinus pennsylvanica. Open understory. Wet silty muck. Associates include Carex retrorsa, C. lupulina, Leersia oryzoides, Galium obtusum, Pilea fontana, Penthorum sedoides, Boehmeria cylindrica, Sagittaria cuneata.
