Habitat: Frequent locally in strip of alluvial forest. Patchy to interrupted canopy dominated by Fraxinus nigra, with occasional Abies balsamea. Tall, lush herbaceous layer dominated by Laportea canadensis and Athyrium angustum. Moist silty soil. Additional associates include Scutellaria lateriflora, Rudbeckia laciniata, Thalictrum dasycarpum, Arisaema triphyllum, Galium asprellum, Echinocystis lobata, Platanthera psycodes, Elymus curvatus, Carex gracillima, C. lacustris, C. stipata, Ribes americanum, Parthenocissus
