Habitat: Large wetland complex. Occasional to frequent on the shores of a narrow bog pond. Mostly in full sun in small depressions in the narrow sedge fen that surrounds the small pond. Wet peat, often in shallow water. Forming robust clumps with as many as three dozen fruiting culms in each clump. Associated species include Carex prairea, C. lasiocarpa, Eleocharis palustris, Dulichium arundinaceum, Galium labradoricum, Thelypteris palustris, Sagittaria latifolia, Utricularia vulgaris, Calla palustris, Betula glandu
