Habitat: Local, occasional in degraded sand prairie remnant in ravine. Moderately steep, 25-foot, west-facing slope. Full sun. Deep sandy soil of ancient Mississippi River outwash terrace. Associated species include Carex heliophila, Koeleria macrantha, Andropogon gerardii, Poa pratensis, Stipa spartea, Ambrosia coronopifolia, Physalis heterophylla, Verbascum thapsus, Penstemon grandiflorus, Selaginella rupestris, Artemisia frigida, Amorpha canescens.
