Habitat: Rolling forested drumlin plain. Occasional in ~50 acres of rich mixed hardwood-conifer swamp. Canopy rather heterogeneous, variously dominated by Fraxinus nigra, Betula papyrifera, Abies balsamea, and/or Picea mariana, with occasional Ulmus americana. Understory of scattered Abies balsamea and Alnus incana. Moist organic substrate. Associates include Carex vaginata, C. leptalea, C. disperma, Rubus pubescens, Mitella nuda, Trientalis borealis, Aralia nudicaulis, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Circaea alpina, Cornu
