Habitat: Rare on large sand-gravel bar. Moist coarse sand and pea-sized gravel substrate ~4-6 inches above present river level. Full sun. Associated species include Cyperus squarrosus, C. bipartitus, C. diandrus, Scirpus atrovirens, Eleocharis intermedia, Eragrostis hypnoides, Zizania palustris, Panicum philadelphicum, Echinochloa muricata, Mollugo verticellata, Bidens cernua, Lindernia dubia, Rumex fueginus, Persicaria lapathifolia, Stellaria media, Stachys palustris, Veronica catenata, Sagittaria cuneata, and seed
